Job description

Medical Laboratory Scientist

Duration: 2 months

Location: Cleveland, Ohio, United States, 44103

Shift: 2nd shift - 4PM-12:30AM EST

Days: Tu, We, Th, Fr, Sa

Shift Differentials: 10% for 2nd shift; additional 10% for Saturday shift

Qualifications: None required for Ohio; BS degree in Chemistry highly preferred; HS Diploma or equivalent required

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, testing, reporting, and record maintenance.
  2. Maintain proficiency testing records.
  3. Analyze specimens using approved procedures.
  4. Review and release test results.
  5. Follow CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
  6. Adhere to quality control policies, document activities, calibrations, and maintenance.
  7. Follow policies when test systems are outside performance specifications.
  8. Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or report to supervisor.
  9. Document corrective actions for deviations.
  10. Report STAT or Critical results per department procedures.
  11. Respond to questions from customers or lab personnel if applicable.
  12. Maintain complete testing records.
  13. Maintain the general appearance of the department.
  14. Ensure reagents/test kits are properly labeled with dates and expiration.
  15. Review and train on new procedures.
  16. Attend departmental and training meetings.
  17. Participate in safety training and know safety protocols and equipment.
  18. Assist in government or regulatory inspections if needed.
  19. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge and Skills:

Solid understanding of basic laboratory testing, good computer skills, adaptability to multiple systems, knowledge of QC and QA, and familiarity with all laboratory areas.

Education:

Preferred BS in Medical Technology, or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology. Candidates educated abroad need credential evaluation from IERF; U.S. educated candidates must provide original transcripts. Certification as MT/MLT from recognized organizations (ASCP or AMT) is desirable.

Work Experience:

At least 1 year of clinical experience in high complexity testing preferred; minimum 1 year in highly complex testing for candidates with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology. Licensure required.
