Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Assistant 1 is responsible for up-front specimen handling and facilitating the workflow in and out of the laboratory. Assists laboratory personnel with laboratory procedures. May perform some moderate complex tests and support clerical duties. Relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks. Works under close supervision.

Responsibilities

• Productivity: Ensure all pre-analytical specimen handling and workflow are effectively managed at all times. Perform non-complex laboratory testing as needed. Assist in the care and maintenance of laboratory areas and equipment. Wear appropriate PPE during sample collection and processing to ensure safety.
• Quality & Compliance: Accept and receive specimens into the Laboratory Information System with proper patient identification. Evaluate specimens for proper identification and integrity. Follow protocols for instrument maintenance, controls, and quality checks. Recognize and refer issues outside of own expertise.
• Other duties: Participate in committees, department processes, and special projects as assigned. Complete other duties as required.
