The Medical Technician, MLT, CLT is responsible for performing laboratory procedures in at least three or more functional sections of the clinical laboratory in accordance with the policies and procedures that are in effect. The key areas of the laboratory include Blood Bank, Hematology, Coagulation, Immunology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, and Microbiology. The technician maintains the instruments in his/her area, performs Quality Control procedures, calibrations, reviews Quality Control and Calibration data to ensure accuracy, and aids in improving the performance of the laboratory. The technologist may also be expected to perform other functions not specified. Additional duties such as teaching, purchasing, inventory, and writing procedures may be assigned depending on the area in which the technician excels.
