JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Laboratory Technician at North Mississippi Health Services is responsible for coordinating the workflow of phlebotomists in the Specimen Processing area, ensuring accurate and efficient transportation of lab supplies and specimens, and following regulatory guidelines for specimen handling. This role involves effective communication with NMHS staff, patients, and family members, providing excellent customer service, and addressing service recovery when needed. The Technician plays a vital role in reporting accurate laboratory test results and maintaining quality control standards.
Education
Education Level: Associate's Degree of Arts degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician from a CAHEA/NAACLS accredited program.
Required/Preferred: Required
Other (Experience): MLTs credentialed prior to 2006 are grandfathered and do not have to complete the continuing education requirement.
Medical Laboratory Scientist students in their fourth year of study who have successfully completed a clinical rotation may be hired into PRN MLT position.
Licenses and Certifications:
ASCP - Medical Technologist ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician, required within 12 months after incumbent’s graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician Program.

Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record/history

Work Experience Details: Willing to consider 10 years of experience in a clinic or hospital laboratory in lieu of certification.

Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills
Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens
Prioritize and organize daily work demands of area
Evaluating processes and equipment for optimal organization and performance
Communicates effectively
Provides excellent service to internal and external customers
Assuring quality control is acceptable and required maintenance is completed daily in work area
Must have extensive contact with: Pathology Department and hospital staff (including physicians)
Must reflect a positive, caring attitude toward clients, patients, staff and the public we serve.
