Job Summary

The Medical Lab Technician will be responsible for specimen handling, processing, transportation, and communication within the pathology department, ensuring compliance with all regulations and standards.

Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate workflow of phlebotomists in specimen processing, distribution, and transportation.
  2. Ensure accurate and efficient transportation of lab supplies, equipment, and specimens.
  3. Follow all laws and regulations in specimen handling and processing.
  4. Maintain proper patient identification and specimen labeling procedures.
  5. Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and families, utilizing AIDET as applicable.
  6. Participate in CARES training and ensure proper service recovery when needed.
  7. Respond politely and efficiently to telephone inquiries.
  8. Work collaboratively with all department staff and NMHS employees.
  9. Report and record testing data accurately and timely.
  10. Assist in meeting departmental performance goals and documentation of maintenance and quality control.
  11. Support training of students and new employees; participate in continuing education.
  12. Adhere to all policies, procedures, and regulations, including CAP and CLSI standards.
Qualifications
  • Associate of Arts degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician from an accredited program.
  • ASCP Certification preferred within 12 months; experience considered as an alternative.
  • Valid Mississippi Driver’s License preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of biohazardous specimen handling required.
