Performs beginning level patient testing and administrative tasks in support of clinical activities in UNCHCS.

Hours: Friday/Saturday/Sunday 12-hour dayshifts OR Saturday/Sunday/Monday 12-hour days 6:00am-6:00pm

Responsibilities:

1. Instructs patients in preparing for tests that require fasting and answers patient questions regarding the tests.
2. Maintains equipment and investigates problems with equipment.
3. Assists in teaching Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents, and training of new employees.
4. Monitors daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
5. Participates in teams or performs special projects/assignments.
6. Performs routine and standardized tests using standard techniques and equipment. Prepares specimens, resolves specimen problems, and performs analytical tests. Labels and stores specimens.
7. Prepares reagents and assists in the preparation of standard and control materials. Monitors reagent levels and maintains supplies.
8. Records test results and maintains records. Provides test results and reports deviations to supervisor or physician.

Other Information

Education Requirements: Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: If degree is in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician, must be ASCP or AMT eligible and receive BOC within a year. If in chemical or biological science, Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) certification required.
