Position Summary

Assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Personnel report to the department supervisor. May be responsible for the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the laboratory.

Assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Personnel report to the department supervisor. May be responsible for the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the laboratory.
Core Functions
- Performs testing accurately and timely according to established policies, procedures, and standards. Responsible for startup, calibration, and accuracy of procedures and instrumentation. Exercises independent judgment, identifies resources, and demonstrates understanding of testing theory and clinical relevance. Demonstrates problem-solving and decision-making skills for routine issues. Has basic troubleshooting skills for computer systems used in the department. Ensures compliance with accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements.
- Recognizes and ensures validity of abnormal patient and QC results. Ensures test result accuracy. Detects and documents deviations from procedures. Resolves problems during testing and maintains departmental productivity and quality standards.
- Manages supplies and materials efficiently. Provides input to improve financial performance, reduce costs, and enhance service.
- Self-motivated to contribute to projects, trains personnel, and performs well in supervisor’s absence. Completes required training modules.
- Communicates professionally and effectively with internal and external customers. Participates in resolving communication issues. Uses appropriate resources for problem solving. Demonstrates good communication skills and promotes teamwork. Attends staff meetings.
- May process and prepare patient samples, including specimen collection, processing, and referral, ensuring proper identification and specimen integrity.

Minimum Qualifications
- Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology, or
- Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science, with transcripts reviewed for eligibility, or
- Equivalent laboratory training and experience per CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489, or
- Other criteria per 42CFR493.1489 or 42CFR493.1491, including US military medical laboratory training.
- Foreign candidates must provide credential evaluation from recognized agencies.
- Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
- MLT certification (ASCP, AMT, HEW, AAB).
- Knowledge of specimen requirements and medical terminology.
- Experience with phlebotomy and processing.
- Additional relevant education or experience.
