Job summary

Premiere Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician for a 12-week assignment in Lewiston, ME. The role supports the Laboratory department with day shifts and performs waived to moderately complex testing per CLIA.

Responsibilities include adherence to QC policies, maintenance of instruments, and reporting accurate results across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis and more. ASCP certification and state licensure are required.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification or equivalent is required.
• Associate’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological science or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
• Current and valid state license if required by the laboratory’s location.
• Minimum 1 year of hospital laboratory work experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform waived, highly and moderately complex testing per CLIA (42 CFR 493.1489).
• Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow established quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from specifications.
• Identify problems that may affect test performance and notify a supervisor if needed.
• Perform waived or highly and moderately complex lab procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology.
• Maintain instruments and equipment daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed.
• Review the accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
• Recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested like patient samples; do not collaborate with other labs before reporting proficiency results.
• May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics.
• Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and HR policies.
• In absence of a supervisor, may be Lead Tech with responsibility for the section or department.
• Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.

Education

2. Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
3. Follow established quality control policies and document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from specifications.
4. Identify problems that may affect test performance and either correct the problem or notify a supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.
5. Perform waived or highly and moderately complex laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology.
6. Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed.
7. Review the accuracy of patient results prior to reporting.
8. Recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Current and valid state license if required by the laboratory’s location.
2. ASCP certification, or equivalent, required.
3. Associate’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
4. Minimum 1 year of hospital laboratory work experience required.

Pay Transparency

Premiere Healthcare Staffing offers competitive compensation and a reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $34.99 to $46.18. This compensation estimate is specific to California and has not been adjusted for any other geographic location. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
