Job Summary And Qualifications
- Performs required procedures in the department according to protocol.
- Makes proper decisions utilizing job knowledge. Works in an independent manner.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the designated section.
- Prioritizes work to ensure completions within the assigned shift and within expected intervals, i.e., Stat, Routine, and Urgent.
- Assists the leadership in the completion of miscellaneous duties.
- Shares daily workload within the department including phlebotomy and processing.
- Maintains good communication with supervisors, co‑workers and customers. Respects patient confidentiality. Demonstrates an awareness of patient/client expectations and always seeks to satisfy.
- Demonstrates proficiency in all laboratory computer related tasks.
- Performs and documents instrument maintenance. Performs quality control according to established procedures. Troubleshoots instruments effectively when appropriate.
- Understands and participates in laboratory QA plan, safety policies, emergency preparedness plan and infection control plan.
- Understands/respects laboratory billing compliance plan. Adheres to guidelines set forth in Lab Billing Compliance Plan. Attends Annual Billing Compliance Training and Annual Ethics Training.
- Initiates and documents patient teaching, including family and /or significant others. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age of the patient served.
Experience
Required: Registry eligible upon hire and obtain registry within 24 months.
Required: Graduate of accredited MLT program.
Preferred: 1–2 years experience as Medical Laboratory Technician.
Education
Required: Pending or graduate Associate’s Degree in a related science (if pending, needs to be obtained within 6 months of hire).
Preferred: Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
Certification
Required: ASCP/AMT eligible upon hire and obtain registry within 24 months.
