Job summary

Monroe Hospital in Bloomington, IN is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to perform waived, highly and moderately complex testing under CLIA guidelines. This role involves work across Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology with emphasis on accuracy and timely reporting.

ASCP certification is preferred; an Associate’s degree in a relevant science and at least 3 years of hospital laboratory experience are required.

Qualifications

• ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.
• Associates Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
• 3 years of hospital laboratory work experience required.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis and reporting of patient test results.
• Follow established quality control policies and document corrective actions.
• Identify problems that may affect test performance and notify supervisor when needed.
• Perform waived or highly and moderately complex procedures across Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology and Immunology.
• Maintain instruments and equipment according to schedule (daily/weekly/monthly).
• Review accuracy of patient results prior to release/reporting.
• Recognize age-specific differences in expected results from newborns to geriatrics.
• Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested consistently with patient samples.
• May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture across age groups when required.
• Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
• Adhere to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness and HR policies.
• In the absence of a supervisor, may be Lead Tech on shift.
