Advocate Health’s Carolinas Medical Center - Core Lab: Chemistry in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join a fast-paced clinical laboratory. This full-time role works 40 hours weekly, with a schedule of Monday to Friday 3:30 PM to midnight and rotating weekends/holidays.

Qualified candidates hold an associate degree or equivalent per CLIA, MLT registry eligible or equivalent, and must obtain MLT (ASCP/AMT) or equivalent within one year of hire; certification through

Qualifications

  • Must have an associate degree or equivalent education and training as defined by CLIA.
  • MLT registry eligible or equivalent required.
  • MLT (ASCP/AMT) or equivalent required within one year of hire.
  • MLT certification through U.S. military medical laboratory training is acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proficiency and follows testing procedures and policies by adherence to quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area, documenting corrective action to any non-conforming event.
  • Prepares reagents, maintains an adequate supply of materials for test procedures and manages inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste/expense.
  • Exercises clinical judgment in assessing priorities while identifying, problem solving and offering solutions to test systems through the appropriate department channels.
  • Assists with review and revision of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, adhering to regulatory requirements (CAP, TJC, OSHA).
  • Maintains clear, real time communications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues affecting patient care or department operation.
  • Participates in planning and implementing change through staff meetings, task forces or projects.
  • Willingly performs all other duties as assigned.

Department: 60982 Carolinas Medical Center - Core Lab: Chemistry Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: M-F 1530 to midnight with rotating weekends and holidays Pay Range: $24.10 - $36.15

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates proficiency and follows testing procedures and policies by adherence to quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area, documenting corrective action to any non-conforming event.
  • Prepares reagents, maintains an adequate supply of materials for test procedures and manages inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste/expense.
  • Exercises clinical judgment in assessing priorities while identifying, problem solving and offering solutions to test systems through the appropriate department channels, i.e. contacts hotline to troubleshoot with a specialist when necessary to resolve the issue or set-up service when appropriate.
  • Assists with review and revision of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, adhering to all regulatory requirements for various authorities, including but not limited to CAP, TJC, OSHA.
  • Maintains clear, real time communications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues, concerns and problems which may affect patient care or the operation of the department.
  • Participates in planning and implementing change through participation in staff meetings, task forces or projects.
  • Willingly performs all other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements

Works in a fast-paced clinical environment. Works in an area which contains bio hazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Duties may involve standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending and lifting light (20 pound) to moderately heavy (50 pound) loads.

Education, Experience and Certifications
  • Must have an associate degree or equivalent education and training as defined by CLIA.MLT registry eligible or equivalent required.
  • MLT (ASCP/AMT) or equivalent required within one year of hire.
  • MLT (ASCP/AMT) certification through the U.S military medical laboratory training programs by an accredited institution is acceptable.
