Job summary

Advocate Health Cleveland laboratory is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician—MLT to support testing procedures and quality assurance. You will prep reagents, manage inventory, and communicate across shifts to ensure patient care is uninterrupted.

The role emphasizes clinical judgment, adherence to accreditation standards, and active participation in improving procedures and processes within a fast-paced lab environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent education per CLIA.
  • MLT registry eligible or equivalent required.
  • MLT (ASCP/AMT) or equivalent within one year of hire.
  • MLT (ASCP/AMT) certification via U.S. military programs acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to testing procedures and QA guidelines; documents non-conforming events.
  • Prepares reagents and maintains adequate test supplies; manages inventory to cut waste.
  • Exercises clinical judgment to prioritize tasks and troubleshoot test systems with specialists.
  • Reviews and updates procedures to meet accreditation and regulatory requirements (CAP, TJC, OSHA).
  • Maintains clear shift-to-shift communication with leadership about issues affecting patient care.
  • Participates in staff meetings and projects to implement changes.

Schedule Details/Additional Information

The position is a 3rd shift position. The schedule is 7 nights on and 7 nights off.

This position is Sign-on Bonus eligible. Based on eligibility.

Pay Range

$24.10 - $36.15

Essential Functions
  • Demonstrates proficiency and follows testing procedures and policies by adherence to quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area, documenting corrective action to any non-conforming event.
  • Prepares reagents, maintains an adequate supply of materials for test procedures and manages inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste/expense.
  • Exercises clinical judgment in assessing priorities while identifying, problem solving and offering solutions to test systems through the appropriate department channels, i.e. contacts hotline to troubleshoot with a specialist when necessary to resolve the issue or set-up service when appropriate.
  • Assists with review and revision of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, adhering to all regulatory requirements for various authorities, including but not limited to CAP, TJC, OSHA.
  • Maintains clear, real time communications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues, concerns and problems which may affect patient care or the operation of the department.
  • Participates in planning and implementing change through participation in staff meetings, task forces or projects.
  • Willingly performs all other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Works in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Works in an area which contains bio hazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards.

Duties may involve standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending and lifting light (20 pound) to moderately heavy (50 pound) loads.

Education, Experience and Certifications

Must have an associate degree or equivalent education and training as defined by CLIA.MLT registry eligible or equivalent required.

MLT (ASCP/AMT) or equivalent required within one year of hire.

MLT (ASCP/AMT) certification through the U.S military medical laboratory training programs by an accredited institution is acceptable.
