Job summary

UT Health East Texas in Pittsburg, TX is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) for a day shift, full-time position. You will perform clinical laboratory testing to support patient care and diagnosis with accuracy.

Qualified candidates hold a Baccalaureate in Medical Technology or an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Science, plus ASCP certification (or equivalent) and must maintain certification without lapse.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science or related field.
• Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or related field.
• ASCP or equivalent certification required and must be maintained without lapse.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and special laboratory procedures with quality control.
• Handle preventative maintenance, minor repairs, inventory control and statistical compilation.
• Participate in QA, performance improvement, training and proficiency testing.

Responsibilities

• The Medical Laboratory Scientist functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
• This position performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
• Will additionally participate in the quality assurance and performance improvement tasks, new employee training and proficiency testing as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

• Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical or biological science.
• OR Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technician studies or a chemical, physical or biological science associates degree.
• ASCP or equivalent.
• Certification within a specific area, i.e. M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.
• Certification must be maintained without lapse during employment.
• If certification does lapse, job will be downgraded to Medical Laboratory Scientist (non-certified) until certification is reinstated.
• Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles.
