Job summary

Hillcrest Hospital Henryetta in Henryetta, OK seeks a PRN Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform routine and special laboratory testing with strict quality control. The MLS will participate in quality assurance, proficiency testing, and staff training as needed.

Certification must be maintained without lapse, and prior clinical lab experience is preferred. Licensure requirements include a Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology or related field and ASCP or equivalent certification.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate Degree in a related science required.
• ASCP certification or equivalent required; certification must be maintained without lapse.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience as MLS or related role preferred.
• Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles required.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and special laboratory procedures with quality control.
• Maintain instrument QC, preventative maintenance, and minor repairs.
• Manage inventory control and participate in proficiency testing and education as assigned.
• Contribute to quality assurance, performance improvement, and educational activities.

Education

Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science

• The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
• This position performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
• Will additionally participate in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training, and proficiency testing when assigned.

Job Requirements:

• Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
• ASCP or equivalent.
  • Certification within a specific area, i.e. M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.
  • Certification must be maintained without lapse during employment.
• If the certification does lapse, the job will be downgraded to Medical Laboratory Scientist (non-certified) until certification is reinstated.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory.
• Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles.
