AdventHealth Apopka

• AdventHealth Apopka is a seven-story, 120-bed hospital offering an extensive range of services including expanded surgical services, advanced surgical suites, and a catheterization lab.

• The hospital also features a 30,000-square-foot emergency department with pediatric-friendly beds, imaging services, a full-service cafeteria, chapel, gift shop, and on-site fire station.

• The hospital opened in December 2017, replacing the 50-bed hospital that AdventHealth had operated in downtown Apopka for more than four decades.

The role you’ll contribute:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist II performs various laboratory procedures in assigned areas as licensed/certified. Work involves analytical testing of blood and/or human biological specimens, requiring a moderate to high degree of theoretical and practical knowledge. Depending on campus and department, various pre- and post-analytical work processes are included; on-call hours may also be required. Follows laboratory policies and procedures, maintains quality control practices, and actively participates in customer service and respectful relationships.

• Performs tests and analytical procedures accurately, adhering to standards and regulations, and participates in proficiency testing.
• Reports results, including abnormal findings, and provides support for all age groups.
• Provides orientation and training to new employees and students, acting as a preceptor when needed, and documents training activities.

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

• Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, or related sciences.
• Laboratory licensure in appropriate specialty(ies) if required by state.
• National certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist if not licensed.
• Relevant certification such as ASCP, AAB, or AMT, unless grandfathered per state requirements.
