Job summary

Roane Medical Center is seeking a PRN Laboratory Assistant to join our team. The role focuses on phlebotomy, proper collection and handling of blood specimens, and delivering samples to the correct lab areas.

The position requires adherence to safety standards, accurate labeling, and capable clerical support. Flexibility with hours and shifts is expected to meet patient care needs in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

Ability to properly collect venous and capillary blood samples as required.
Adhere to labeling, transport, and storage procedures for all specimens.
Follow OSHA standards, universal precautions and hospital safety policies.

Responsibilities

Collect blood samples from venous and capillary sites per facility policy.
Properly handle specimens, transport to the appropriate lab areas, and prevent contamination.
Label specimens accurately and maintain clean, organized work areas.
Use Typenex Armband System for patient labeling and specimen tracking.
Assist with equipment maintenance and notify supervisor of repairs or shortages.
Answer department calls, look up results, and support clerical tasks.
Participate in quality improvement activities and daily lab operations.
Assist with coverage of pneumatic tube system and specimen processing as needed.
