Job summary

Lexington Health, a comprehensive network of care in Columbia, SC, seeks a Medical Laboratory Assistant II to perform advanced specimen collection, processing, and pre-analytical lab functions supporting accurate diagnostic testing. The MLA II independently manages complex registration, specimen handling, and lab workflows.

The role requires foundational lab experience or related customer service background, plus strong computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.

Qualifications

• Excellent computer knowledge and skills.
• Interest and skills in biological sciences and a background in medical terminology preferred.
• Six months experience in a Laboratory setting or equivalent customer service or general office experience.

Responsibilities

• Greets patients and/or representatives and collects identification and insurance information along with physician orders to complete registration.
• Performs venipuncture and specimen collection across age groups with appropriate techniques.
• Orders, receives, tracks, and delivers specimens to testing departments; manages storage and disposal of samples.
• Ensures proper labeling of specimens for accurate patient identification.
• Responds to inquiries with excellent communication and customer service.
• Maintains compliance with regulatory, safety, and quality standards; supports training and workflow coordination.
