Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital seeks a PRN Medical Interpreter in Akron for on-site assignments. Fluency in Spanish is required to facilitate cross-cultural communication between patients, families, and clinical staff.

Experience in medical interpreting and a healthcare environment is preferred. Certification in medical interpreting (CCHI/NBCMI) is desirable, with proficiency in MS Office tools for documentation and referrals.

Summary:

The Medical Interpreter is responsible for facilitating daily cross-cultural effective communication both orally and in writing between patients, family members, medical providers and hospital staff.

Responsibilities:

• Provides language interpretation and translation services between the target language and English according to industry standards.
• Assists employees in providing linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical services to patients and families.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
• Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

• Experience in proficient use of English and the target language is required.
• Experience in medical interpreting is required.
• Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare is preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.

Education and Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
• Certification: Evidence of passing medical interpreter training program is required. National medical interpreting certification or credential is preferred.
• Years of relevant experience: 1 to 2 years is preferred.
• Years of experience supervising: None.
