Department: 11604 Enterprise Corporate - Language Services

Status: Full time

Benefits Eligible: Yes

Hours Per Week: 40

Schedule Details: Monday-Friday 0900-1730, possible early start, late finish, weekend coverage and required holiday rotation. Modalities: Video/Phone/In-person.

Pay Range: $35.50 - $53.25

Responsibilities
  • Provides interpretation for patients, families, and their healthcare team in all clinical settings, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism across languages and cultures.
  • Facilitates communication during life-support withdrawal, fetal demise, and major emergency cases.
  • Encourages rapport-building and ensures clear understanding between patients and providers.
  • Collaborates with social services, behavioral health, financial counseling, and chaplaincy on advanced directives, psychiatric evaluations, homelessness, domestic violence, and alcohol/substance abuse issues.
  • Documents work activity in official departmental logs and patient medical records.
  • Assists with follow‑up appointments, referrals, transportation, insurance/payment processes, informed consents, and site translations as needed.
  • Adheres to all federal, state, and local regulations governing medical interpreting practice.
Qualifications
  • Licensure/Registration/Certification: Medical Interpreter (CMI) certification issued by The National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
  • Education: Advanced training beyond high school, including completion of an accredited or approved program.
  • Experience: No previous experience required.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Bilingual in target language and English; proven medical–interpreting proficiency.
    • Professional command of bilingual medical terminology (anatomy, physiology, diagnostics, treatment, prevention, health education).
    • Competency in interpreting for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, therapists, social workers, chaplains, and financial counselors in all healthcare settings.
    • Knowledge of medical interpreting ethics per the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC).
    • Understanding of cultural aspects of the medical community and patient identity.
    • Ability to handle difficult communications, including death and dying.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Basic computer skills.
    • Proficiency with video interpreting techniques.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • May be exposed to human blood or body fluids.
  • Must wear protective clothing as needed.
  • Operates necessary equipment.
  • Works in a 24/7 environment with on‑call responsibilities.
  • Position requires travel; possible road and weather hazards.
