Job summary

Homeland Language Services is seeking experienced Nepali-English interpreters to join their team in Virginia. This position involves providing interpretation for Limited English Proficient patients to ensure access to healthcare services. Candidates should have at least one year of experience in medical interpreting, with fluency in both English and Nepali. Flexible scheduling is available, allowing interpreters to choose assignments. Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in medical interpreting or successful internship program.
  • Desired certifications include CMI, CHI, CCHI, NBCMI, or 40-hour medical interpreting course.

Job Overview

The Interpreter provides interpretation for Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients, their families, providers, and staff. The Interpreter advocates for LEP patients' access to the full range of healthcare services, providing intercultural mediation to assist providers in delivering culturally sensitive patient care. A commitment to provide exceptional customer experience, patient privacy & safety, and teamwork spirit is required for this position.

Job type: ONSITE

Location: Fairfax, VA

Schedule: Typically during regular business hours (8 AM – 6 PM), with some Saturdays. Appointments are scheduled based on client needs.

Background and Experience
  • Work experience: At least 1+ year of medical interpreting or an equivalent successful internship program. Experience in a medical or human services setting is preferred.
  • Certifications are desirable but not compulsory. Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Desired certifications include CMI, CHI, CCHI, an interpreting diploma, NBCMI, or completion of a 40‑hour medical interpreting course.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and the target language, with a preference for native‑level fluency in the target language. Professional‑level medical interpreting and short non‑publication translation skills are required.
