Job summary

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago seeks a Language Interpreter to provide interpretation for patients and families, translating oral and written medical content to ensure optimal care. You will collaborate with a team of interpreters and assist with cultural understanding across care areas.

The role requires formal medical interpreting training and a certificate, with experience in diverse settings, and the ability to handle a busy schedule and travel between facilities.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a formal program in medical interpreting and translation with medical interpretation certificate.
• Progressive experience in medical translation and interpretation including working with diverse organizations, multi-cultural environments.
• Ability to interpret and transcribe medical content between languages.
• Knowledge of cultural differences that exist within cultures.
• Adherence to code of ethics and confidentiality.
• Caseload and time management; travel between facilities.
• Balance interpretation and administrative work.
• Sustain a busy and flexible work schedule.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation for patients and caregivers to ensure full benefit of treatment.
• Translate clinical and procedural documents orally for patients and families.
• Translate written documents.
• Assist employees in understanding cultural differences impacting patient care.
• Collaborate with other Interpreters on schedules and assignment of interpreters.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
