Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a PRN Medical Interpreter for the day shift to facilitate cross-cultural communication between patients, families, medical staff and providers. You will interpret orally and translate written materials to support accurate clinical care on-site.

The role requires proficiency in English and the target language, experience in medical interpreting, and completion of an interpreter training program with possible certification. On-site work is required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's preferred.
• Evidence of passing medical interpreter training program required; National certification preferred.
• 1-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• FTE status: 0.001, onsite.

Responsibilities

• Provide language interpretation and translation services between target language and English.
• Assist staff in delivering linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical services.
• Support care across physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs.
• Perform other duties as required.

Summary

The Medical Interpreter is responsible for facilitating daily cross-cultural effective communication both orally and in writing between patients, family members, medical providers and hospital staff.

Responsibilities

• 1. Provides language interpretation and translation services between the target language and English according to industry standards.
• 2. Assists employees in providing linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical services to patients and families.
• 3. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
• 4. Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

• 1. Experience in proficient use of English and the target language is required.
• 2. Experience in medical interpreting is required.
• 3. Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.
• 4. Experience in healthcare is preferred.
• 5. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.

Education and Experience

• 1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
• 2. Certification: Evidence of passing medical interpreter training program is required. National medical interpreting certification or credential is preferred.
• 3. Years of relevant experience: 1 to 2 years is preferred.
• 4. Years of experience supervising: None.
