Job summary

Akron Children's is seeking a PRN onsite Medical Interpreter in Akron to facilitate cross-cultural communication between patients, families, medical providers, and staff. Fluency in Spanish is required, with interpretation duties ranging from oral to written translation as needed.

The role requires experience in medical interpreting and a certification program; a bachelor’s degree is preferred but not mandatory.

Qualifications

• Must be fluent in Spanish and able to interpret accurately.
• Medical interpreter experience required.
• 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Certification: passing medical interpreter training program required; national medical interpreting certification preferred.
• High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.

• Assists employees in providing linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical services to patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Provides language interpretation and translation services between the target language and English according to industry standards.
• Assists employees in providing linguistically and culturally appropriate clinical services to patients and families.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the physical, psychological, social, educational, and safety needs of the patients served regardless of age.
• Other duties as required.

Technical Expertise

• Experience in proficient use of English and the target language is required.
• Experience in medical interpreting is required.
• Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare is preferred.
• Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.

Education And Experience

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is preferred.
• Certification: Evidence of passing medical interpreter training program is required. National medical interpreting certification or credential is preferred.
• Years of relevant experience: 1 to 2 years is preferred.
• Years of experience supervising: None.
