Job Description: Inpatient Coder at Cognizant

Cognizant, a leading professional services company, is seeking a remote Inpatient Coder to collaborate with clients. The role involves reviewing documentation, coding diagnoses and procedures, and communicating with physicians for clarification.

Responsibilities:

1. Review documentation to code diagnoses and procedures.
2. Communicate with physicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures via the query process.
3. Assign accurate codes using electronic encoder applications, adhering to practice policies and regulations.
4. Perform peer reviews of coding auditors and coders.
5. Maintain a minimum accuracy rate of 98% and meet productivity standards: 24 encounters per day, 3 per hour, with 20 minutes per encounter.
6. Complete reports and other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

1. At least 2 years of inpatient facility-based coding experience.
2. Credentials: CCS, RHIT, RHIA (AHIMA), or CPC, CPC-H (AAPC).
3. Experience with Level 1 Trauma coding and DRG.
4. Knowledge of federal, state, and payer regulations.
5. Ability to interpret medical records and chart entries.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Strong judgment and decision-making skills.
8. Proficiency in MS Office applications.
9. Ability to manage multiple projects and workload effectively.
10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
11. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
12. Knowledge of EPIC and 3M systems.

Compensation and Benefits:

The hourly rate ranges from $27.00 to $37.50, based on experience. The position includes eligibility for an annual incentive program.
