Job Description

I. General Summary

  • Under supervision, accurately codes hospital inpatient accounts for reimbursement, research, statistics, and compliance with federal and state regulations, using ICD-10-CM/PCS coding systems.

II. Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Acts as a clinical coding expert, analyzing documentation issues with input from medical and clinical staff and documentation specialists.
  • Codes and abstracts complex inpatient cases (trauma, rehab, neurology, critical care) to ensure correct APR-DRG/SOI/ROM and POA assignment.
  • Collaborates with senior coders and staff, sharing coding insights and advice on complex cases.

Qualifications

III. Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent; ICD-10-CM and CPT training; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least three years of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding experience in a Level 1 Trauma or Rehab hospital, or four years of inpatient coding experience.
  • Certification required: CCS, RHIT, RHIA, or CIC.

IV. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to prioritize and meet deadlines; excellent customer service; medical terminology familiarity; computer proficiency; typing skills.
Additional Information

Compensation: $31.40 - $42.57/hour.
