Job summary

Yale Cancer Center is seeking a Manager of Education to oversee residency and fellowship education and training, including ACGME and non-ACGME programs, HR, and budget support. Overview

Under the general direction of the Associate Director of Administration for Orthopedics and Rehabilitation, and with considerable latitude for exercising discretion and independent judgment, the Manager of Education will provide a high level of administrative and academic management by overseeing all activities related to the supervision of the Orthopedics education and training programs. This position will be responsible for managing all administrative, human resources, supervisory and operational facets including management of ACGME and Non- ACGME fellowships and residency programs. This position is also responsible for medical student education, observerships, internships and other visiting students and scholars.

In conjunction with the Finance Manager for the Integrated Business Office for the Departments of Surgery, Anesthesia and Orthopedics, this position will assist in the development of the annual budget and quarterly monitoring for assigned areas.

Recruitment responsibilities
  • Establish policies, strategy and ideology of recruitment.
  • Manage the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) process.
  • Screen all applications and invites candidates for interview.
  • Update recruitment websites, and materials provided to applicants.
  • Establish and manages interview process, ranking, and post-match activities.
  • Submit National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) list via Internet.
  • Verify Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) documentation and ensures visa requirements are met.
Program Accreditation responsibilities
  • Understand the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements for institutional, core, and program requirements.
  • Act as subject matter expect and advise program director of requirement interpretation.
  • Coordinate completion of Program Information Form (PIF) for ACGME site review.
  • Prepare department, faculty, and physicians-in-training for site visit.
  • Serve as key participant in site visit.
  • Organize internal review with institution’s policy, procedure and mission statement.
Information Technology Responsibilities
  • Update ACGME webADS, American Board of Radiology, Tracking, ERAS, NRMP, surveys, and national reports.
  • Implement and maintain program management software.
  • Develop and maintain database on residents, fellows, graduate students, trainees, and alumni.
  • Create and maintain recruiting web pages.
Required Skills and Abilities

1. Demonstrated experience with high level management of Residency/Fellowship programs.

2. Understanding of ACGME requirements, an experience with ERAS.

3. Strong organizational skills. Ability to coordinate across multiple teams and multi-task.

4. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present on behalf of the Vice Chair of Education.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

1. Demonstrated ability managing/supervising others preferability Residency/Fellowship coordinators.

2. Proven experience handling Education budgets.

  • Advises leadership on the overall progress of programs, anticipates potential problems, and recommends changes to meet objectives.
  • Leads effective coordination with Yale faculty, partners, and others involved in programs, setting expectations and preparing participants for programs.
  • Leads execution of application, selection, and management process.
  • Designs and executes a strategy for effective follow-up and tracking of delegations and post-event progress.
  • Designs and implements programs, with potential linkages to relevant events.
  • Develops, maintains strong relationships, and liaises with faculty, partners, and others and facilitates connections to appropriate resources.
  • Drafts reports, memos and communications materials as needed. May perform other duties as assigned.
