Position Overview
The Medical Director works closely with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), clinical leadership, and interdisciplinary care teams to support high-quality clinical care and organizational priorities.
The Medical Director provides clinical leadership, guidance, and support across CHA's health centers and clinical programs. This position contributes to clinical strategy, quality improvement, provider development, care-model transformation, regulatory compliance, and the ongoing advancement of CHA's Patient-Centered Medical Home and team-based care model.

Requirements
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Care Delivery
- Provide clinical leadership and guidance to CHA health center providers and interdisciplinary care teams.
- Promote consistent delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered primary care.
- Support providers in addressing complex clinical cases, care coordination needs, and clinical practice questions.
- Promote effective collaboration among physicians, APPs, nurses, behavioral health professionals, care coordinators, pharmacists, dentists, and other members of the care team.
- Support appropriate clinical utilization, patient access, continuity of care, and population health initiatives.
- Maintain professional clinical competence consistent with licensure, certification, credentials, privileges, and scope of practice.
- Participate in clinical care, as applicable to the position and organizational needs.
Supervision, Collaboration & Clinical Oversight
The Medical Director may be a Physician (MD/DO) or Advanced Practice Provider (APP), consistent with organizational needs and applicable credentialing, licensure, and regulatory requirements.
When the Medical Director is a Physician (MD/DO), an essential function of the position may include responsibility for supervising, collaborating with, or otherwise providing required physician clinical oversight for up to three (3) Advanced Practice Providers at any one time. Advanced Practice Providers may include Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, or other licensed clinicians for whom physician involvement is required or appropriate.
Responsibilities may include:
- Reviewing clinical care and documentation.
- Providing clinical consultation and guidance.
- Maintaining timely availability for clinical questions.
- Completing required chart reviews.
- Participating in quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
- Executing and maintaining supervision, collaboration, or other agreements and documentation required by law or organizational policy.
When the Medical Director is an APP, clinical leadership, collaboration, consultation, and oversight responsibilities will be performed within the individual's education, training, licensure, certification, credentials, privileges, and authorized scope of practice. An APP Medical Director will not be assigned physician-specific supervisory or collaboration responsibilities that require a physician under applicable law or regulation.
All supervisory, collaborative, and clinical oversight responsibilities will be performed in accordance with applicable federal and state laws, licensing-board requirements, payer requirements, medical-staff bylaws, organizational policies, the Medical Director's credentials and privileges, and the education, experience, and authorized scope of practice of each provider.
Quality Improvement & Clinical Excellence
- Lead and support complex clinical quality improvement and health improvement initiatives.
- Promote evidence-based clinical practice, patient safety, and continuous improvement.
- Support development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and practice standards.
- Monitor clinical performance and identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes and care processes.
- Collaborate with clinical and operational leaders on population health, healthcare transformation, and integrated care initiatives.
- Support compliance with federal and state requirements, accreditation standards, payer requirements, and CHA policies.
Provider Development & Education
- Support recruitment, onboarding, development, retention, and professional growth of clinical providers.
- Participate in provider interviews, orientation, training, and ongoing professional development.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Provide clinical education and consultation to providers and care teams.
- Support medical education and appropriate supervision of students and trainees within CHA's approved programs and scope.
- Monitor and evaluate student or trainee performance, patient safety, and adherence to clinical and documentation standards.
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Partner with executive and clinical leadership to develop and implement CHA's clinical strategy.
- Provide clinical perspective on operational decisions, health policy, care delivery models, and organizational initiatives.
- Assist with the development and implementation of new health centers, programs, and innovative care models.
- Participate in organizational committees, leadership meetings, and strategic initiatives.
- Serve as a clinical liaison between frontline providers, administrative leadership, and community partners.
- Help identify opportunities to strengthen provider workflows, access, patient experience, and clinical operations.
Community & Organizational Engagement
- Represent CHA professionally with community organizations, healthcare partners, providers, and other stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain productive relationships with healthcare professionals and community partners throughout Nevada.
- Participate in community events, outreach activities, organizational presentations, tours, and other activities that support CHA's mission.
- Support CHA's public relations, community engagement, fundraising, and organizational initiatives as appropriate.
Professional Experience, Qualifications & Educational RequirementsRequired
- Graduate of an accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Physician Assistant (PA), or other applicable advanced practice program, consistent with the requirements of the position and the individual's professional discipline.
- Board certified in Family Medicine or another appropriate primary care specialty, or nationally certified in the applicable advanced practice discipline.
- Current, unrestricted Nevada license appropriate to the individual's professional discipline.
- Current DEA registration, as applicable to the individual's role and prescribing authority.
- Must meet all CHA medical-staff credentialing, privileging, and organizational requirements applicable to the position.
- Demonstrated clinical competency in primary care within the individual's education, training, licensure, certification, credentials, and authorized scope of practice.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary healthcare team and across clinical and operational functions.
- Demonstrated leadership experience or leadership capabilities appropriate to the Medical Director role.
Preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience, preferably in an inpatient, outpatient, community health center, FQHC, rural health, or other safety-net healthcare setting.
- Previous clinical leadership, supervisory, Medical Director, department leadership, or quality improvement experience.
- Experience working within a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) or team-based care model.
- Experience supervising, collaborating with, or providing clinical oversight to Advanced Practice Providers, as applicable to the individual's professional discipline and scope of practice.
- Experience treating or managing care for culturally and socioeconomically diverse patient populations.
- Experience with population health, quality improvement, healthcare transformation, or integrated care models.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to perform essential clinical, administrative, and leadership functions in a healthcare environment, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.

- Ability to use standard office and clinical equipment, including computers and electronic health record systems, for extended periods.

- Work is performed primarily in a clinical and office-based healthcare environment, with regular interaction with patients, staff, providers, and leadership.
- May be exposed to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medical equipment, cleaning/disinfecting agents, and other conditions typical of a healthcare setting; appropriate safety and infection-control practices are required.
- May require travel between CHA health centers and community locations, including occasional off-site meetings, outreach activities, training, or organizational events.
