Job summary

Life’s WORC in New York seeks a dedicated DSP to advocate for residents, accompany them to appointments, and support daily living activities. You will coordinate medical visits with nursing staff, oversee safety, and participate in active treatment within a residence setting.

Required are a NYS driver’s license, HS diploma or GED, and strong communication skills. Six months’ experience with Life’s WORC or a similar agency is preferred, with flexible scheduling as needed.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Experience working with persons with developmental disabilities preferred.
• Minimum six months’ experience with Life’s WORC or similar agency in a support counselor or health-related role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Valid NY State Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Accompany and advocate for individuals to medical/dental appointments and ER visits.
• Schedule medical appointments in coordination with the Nurse and Manager.
• Maintain a medical appointment calendar with the Nurse and Manager.
• Meet weekly with the Nurse and Manager to coordinate information from appointments.
• Provide ongoing protective oversight to residents.
• Implement active treatment.
• Assist individuals with basic activities of daily living.
• Provide training and support per individual program plan.
• Perform daily checks of medication and supplies.
• Complete AMAP course and annual recertification for administration purposes.
• Maintain flexible scheduling; may work beyond normal shift.
• Drive agency vans equipped with GPS and demonstrate safe driving.
