Job summary

Montefiore Nyack Hospital is seeking a Medical Coding Supervisor to oversee the daily operations of the hospital coding team, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant coding of inpatient and outpatient medical records.

The role supports the HIM coding manager by enforcing coding standards, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements, and improving department performance in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in HIM or related field required.
• At least 5 years coding (Inpatient/Outpatient), HIM experience, and minimum 3 years’ leadership or supervisory role.
• RHIT/RHIA along with CCS/CCSP, CPC considered.
• Strong knowledge of DRG/APC; proficient in 3M 360 Coding, Optum Lynx and Excel; Epic knowledge highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily workflow for inpatient and outpatient coding staff.
• Monitor productivity, accuracy, and quality; implement improvement plans with coding manager.
• Review outpatient records to ensure ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS guidelines compliance.
• Accurately assign codes to meet guidelines (ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT-4, HCPCS, modifiers).
• Support denials and appeals processes related to coding.
• Ensure timely coding to meet billing and compliance guidelines.
• Maintain work queues and review LCD/NCD edits for accurate documentation.
• Collaborate with administrators and department heads to resolve coding issues.
