Job summary

Rendr is hiring a Medical Coding Specialist to improve coding documentation quality across primary care and specialty services in New York City. You will assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, query physicians for clarity, and stay current with coding guidelines.

You will ensure HIPAA compliance, support policy development, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives with the RCM team. Experience with ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Active certified coder certification (CPC, CCS-P) through AHIMA or AAPC.
  • At least two years coding experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical codes, terminology, abbreviations, anatomy & physiology, major disease, pharmacology and metric system.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in MS Office - Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Excellent understanding of ICD-10-CM coding classification and guidelines.
  • Excellent understanding of CPT, HCPCS, and modifier coding and guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform related work and projects as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work with manager to identify and implement quality improvement strategies.

Job Overview:

A Medical Coding Specialist works to improve the quality of coding documentation and data in the HCC database. This position collaborates in providing expertise in the use and application of coding classification such as ICD-10-CM.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Assign and sequence ICD 10 CM and CPT 4 codes for all specialty patient types, billing and reimbursement. These include, but may not be limited to, Primary Care, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Oncology

  • Query physicians when documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes

  • Comply with HIPAA laws and regulations

  • Remain current on diagnosis coding guidelines and risk adjustment reimbursement reporting requirements

  • Assist RCM Leadership with developing policies, guidelines and SOPs for primary care and specialty coding

  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives

  • Performs related work and projects as required

  • Performs other duties as assigned
