Job summary

Rendr is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to enhance coding documentation and data quality in the HCC database. You will bring expertise in ICD-10-CM and CPT coding across specialties including primary care, pediatrics, cardiology, and oncology.

Collaborate with physicians to resolve documentation gaps, ensure accurate reimbursements, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within a growing multi-office system in New York City.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Active CPC or CCS-P certification through AHIMA or AAPC.
• Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience.
• Strong ICD-10-CM, CPT and HCPCS knowledge.
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• HIPAA compliance and attention to detail required.

Responsibilities

• Assign and sequence ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for diverse patient types and services.
• Query physicians when documentation is insufficient or unclear for coding.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance and data privacy.
• Stay current on coding guidelines and risk adjustment requirements.
• Assist leadership in developing coding policies and SOPs for primary care and specialty services.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and related projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned and support manager in strategic coding initiatives.

Job Overview:

A Medical Coding Specialist works to improve the quality of coding documentation and data in the HCC database. This position collaborates in providing expertise in the use and application of coding classification such as ICD-10-CM.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Assign and sequence ICD 10 CM and CPT 4 codes for all specialty patient types, billing and reimbursement. These include, but may not be limited to, Primary Care, Pediatrics, Cardiology, Oncology


• Query physicians when documentation in the record is inadequate, ambiguous, or unclear for coding purposes


• Comply with HIPAA laws and regulations


• Remain current on diagnosis coding guidelines and risk adjustment reimbursement reporting requirements


• Assist RCM Leadership with developing policies, guidelines and SOPs for primary care and specialty coding


• Participates in quality improvement initiatives


• Performs related work and projects as required


• Performs other duties as assigned


• Works with manager to identify, develop and implement strategies for quality improvement

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required


• Active certified coder certification (CPC, CCS-P) through AHIMA or AAPC

• At least two years coding experience


• Advanced knowledge of medical codes, terminology, abbreviations, anatomy & physiology, major disease, pharmacology and metric system.


• Intermediate level of proficiency in MS Office - Excel, PowerPoint, and Word


• Excellent understanding of ICD-10-CM coding classification and guidelines


• Excellent understanding of CPT, HCPCS, and modifier coding and guidelines
