Qualifications

A Brief Overview:

The Medical Coder III is a senior-level position responsible for ensuring precise coding of diagnoses and procedures in compliance with established coding guidelines and regulations. This role is vital for maintaining financial accuracy and regulatory compliance within our institution.

What you will do:

  • Assign accurate diagnostic (ICD-10-CM) and procedural (CPT) codes to medical records, demonstrating advanced proficiency in complex coding scenarios.
  • Lead and conduct internal audits of medical records and coding work to ensure accuracy and consistency, providing guidance and feedback to junior coders.
  • Analyze clinical documentation and collaborate with physicians and staff to clarify and improve documentation for accurate coding.
  • Stay current with coding guidelines, conventions, and regulatory changes, sharing knowledge with the team.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to resolve coding questions and discrepancies, ensuring accurate code assignment.
  • Ensure coding practices comply with healthcare regulations and HIPAA standards.
  • Generate coding reports and summaries to identify accuracy, trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Mentor and train junior coders to develop their skills and understanding of best practices.
  • Use coding software and electronic health records proficiently, contributing to process improvements.
