Job Title

Health Information Coder 3 - $2,000 Sign on Bonus

Job Summary

The Health Information Coder III is a senior-level inpatient coder with advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS classification systems. Responsibilities include coding to comply with guidelines, abstracting data, and focusing on primary hospital services.

The employee will work eight hours per day, five days a week, with schedule flexibility based on manager approval.

Key Responsibilities
  • Retrieve and analyze medical records and information systems.
  • Code inpatient cases accurately using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, including DRG assignment.
  • Input codes into databases, participate in audits, and provide training.
  • Meet departmental productivity and quality standards.
  • Maintain current knowledge of medical terminology and coding guidelines.
  • Follow up on physician documentation.
  • Interact with UCSF staff and customers.

Sign-on Bonus Eligibility: Candidates cannot be current UC employees or have been employed by the University in the past 12 months. Must meet UC location eligibility requirements.

Salary depends on experience and internal equity, ranging from $60.26 to $75.12 per hour.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Certification: CCS, CIC, RHIT, or RHIA.
  • 3+ years inpatient DRG coding experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems.
  • Must pass knowledge assessment with 90% or have recent inpatient DRG coding experience with 95% accuracy.
  • Ability to meet productivity requirements with at least 95% accuracy.
  • Proficiency in EHR and encoder tools, Windows, Word, Excel.
  • Excellent communication and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of HIMS database systems and procedures.
