Job summary

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a skilled coder/abstracter to assign accurate ICD-10 and CPT codes for inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services, aligned with official guidelines. This role supports MUSC Health’s HIM Department within MCP and contributes to compliant coding practices.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience: 2+ years of coding experience required.
• Licensure/Certification: RHIT, CCS, CCA, CPC, CPC-A, or other coding credential required.

Responsibilities

• The coder/abstracter is responsible for accurate code assignment of all inpatient, outpatient, and emergency service diagnoses, procedures and conditions as indicated in the patient medical record. Classification systems include ICD-10 and CPT edition, and all coding is in accordance with official coding guidelines from the AMA, AHA, and AHIMA.
