UnitedHealth Group seeks an Emergency Department Coder to code ED services from anywhere in the U.S. The role requires AHIMA/AAPC credentials and 1+ year ED coding with ICD-10 experience. You will apply ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes while ensuring accurate charge capture and compliance with APC impacts.

The position emphasizes quality, productivity in a production environment, and opportunities for career growth within Optum and the broader UnitedHealth Group network.

Job Responsibilities

• Codes Emergency Department services
• Confirms documentation supports code selection and resolves facility edits and Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) impacts
• Applies International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT)/Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes and supports charge capture reconciliation and late charges
• Meets established quality and productivity standards in a production environment

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma

Required Certifications

• American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) credential (Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H))
• 1+ years of ED coding experience
• 1+ years of ICD-10 experience
• Intermediate familiarity with National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI)/Medically Unlikely Edits (MUE) basics and facility modifier awareness

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with EHR systems
• Intermediate level of Microsoft Excel*

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc.

The hourly pay for this role will range from $20.00 to $36.00 per hour based on full-time employment.
