Job summary

Wayne Memorial Community Health Centers in the United States seeks an experienced Emergency Department Medical Coder for a full-time remote role. Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• National medical coding certification completed.
• Prior hospital coding experience required; ED coding preferred.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and managed-care coding requirements.
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems with thorough knowledge of official coding guidelines.
• Proficiency in emergency department E/M coding for both professional and technical.
• Proficiency in injection and infusion coding.
• Understanding of NCCI edits, MUEs, modifiers, bundling and medical necessity concepts.
• Experience with electronic health records and coding/encoder systems preferred, 3M preferred.
• Experience with multiple payer requirements and emergency department reimbursement methodologies.
• Extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology and standard nomenclature.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies or missing documentation.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining established productivity and accuracy standards.
• Ability to prioritize a high-volume workload while maintaining coding quality.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Medical Coder Emergency DepartmentFull-time (Remote opportunity)

The Emergency Department Coder is responsible for accurately reviewing, interpreting, and coding emergency department encounters in accordance with current ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, E/M, payer, and regulatory guidelines. This position translates clinical documentation into accurate diagnosis and procedure codes to support appropriate reimbursement, quality reporting, medical necessity, and compliance. This position also requires accurate charge entry. The Emergency Department Coder works closely with providers, clinical staff, Patient Financial Services, and the Health Information Management team to identify documentation and coding issues and promote accurate and compliant coding practices.

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a nationally recognized medical coding certification preferred.
