Job summary

Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington, Missouri, is seeking a Medical Coder under the direct supervision of the Controller. The coder will apply CPT coding principles, ED/E&M coding, and financial class requirements to accurately assign E/M codes for reimbursement and will enter patient charges while providing partial coverage for the hospital switchboard.

The position requires attention to detail, strong communication with medical staff, and at least one year of acute care outpatient/ED

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Medical Terminology
• Pathophysiology/disease processes; CPT knowledge beneficial
• Detail oriented with ability to communicate with Medical Staff and office personnel
• One year of acute care hospital outpatient/ED coding
• Six months of E&M coding experience preferred
• If no undergrad HIM/HIT degree, must obtain CCS certification within 12 months of employment

Responsibilities

• Assign E/M codes within medical records for reimbursement
• Enter patient charges
• Provide partial coverage for the hospital switchboard
• Ensure incoming calls are answered promptly and routed to the correct extension
