Job summary

The Kings County Department of Public Health is seeking a Medical Billing Assistant I/II to manage accurate, timely billing for Medi-Cal, Medicare, and other health plans. You’ll support care delivery by keeping the financial engine running in a fast-paced environment.

This role offers growth from entry-level to advanced levels, requiring attention to detail and strong data-entry, coding, and payer communications with providers and insurers.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in general accounting or financial data processing.
• Experience in a medical office setting preferred for I.
• Two years of experience at or above Medical Billing Assistant I level for II.
• California driver's license required.
• Ability to qualify for security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Review and submit medical claims to Medi-Cal, Medicare, and other plans.
• Verify documentation, authorization, and data for billing.
• Apply medical codes and determine allowable charges.
• Reconcile payments and post to patient accounts.
• Respond to provider and insurer inquiries about claims.
• Enter data into electronic billing software accurately.
• Produce reports on billing activities and denial statistics.
• Train junior staff and participate in meetings.
