Role Description The Medical Billing Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based at Griffith Eye Center in Erie, PA. This role is responsible for accurately processing insurance claims, posting payments, and managing patient accounts related to eye care services. Daily tasks include verifying insurance coverage, entering and reviewing billing data, correcting claim errors, and following up on denied or unpaid claims to ensure timely reimbursement. The specialist will generate statements, assist patients with billing questions, and coordinate with clinical and front-office staff to maintain accurate documentation and coding. This role also involves monitoring aging reports, maintaining compliance with payer and regulatory requirements, and supporting efficient revenue cycle operations for the practice.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in medical billing, preferably in ophthalmology or a related healthcare setting.
• Proficiency with medical billing software, practice management systems, and basic office productivity tools (e.g., EMR/EHR systems, Excel, and email).
• Knowledge of insurance plans, reimbursement processes, CPT/ICD coding basics, and regulatory guidelines relevant to medical billing.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and ability to reconcile accounts and payments.
• Effective communication and customer service skills for working with patients, clinical staff, and insurance representatives.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a collaborative team in an on-site environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or certification in medical billing, coding, or healthcare administration is preferred.
• Prior experience in an eye care or specialty medical practice is a plus.
