Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a contract-level Medical Claims Payment Determination Specialist. The role requires CPC or CPC-A certification and focuses on reviewing emergency services and ambulance-related claims, validating data, and selecting payment determinations without coding.

The position is fully remote, based out of Minneapolis, MN, with hours Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm CST.

Qualifications

• Active CPC or CPC-A certification.
• Experience coding/billing emergency medical services is helpful but not required.
• Experience with appeals and EOBs is preferred.
• Open to someone with CPC-A looking to move into coding with working knowledge of codes and insurance parameters.
• Experience in either professional services or facilities side is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Make payment determinations for claims based on CPT codes and payer guidelines.
• Review and work on emergency services, ambulance services and related claims.
• Validate data and determine the correct position for payment rather than performing coding.
• Handle high-volume chart/file processing with throughput TBD.
• Work within the company’s internal database/system that houses all claims and cases.

Job Description

Day to day duties:

• Making payment determinations. For example, parties have gone back and forth and havent settled on a proper claim payout based on the CPT code. This person would say this is the right party, here is why, etc. They will be deciding payment determinations for claims. They must have their CPC or CPC-A, but they will not be doing any coding in this role.

• Will be working on/reviewing a lot of emergency services, ambulance services, air ambulance and non air ambulance so a lot of emergency providers. If they have knowledge/experience that is helpful but not required

• Doing validation/verification of the data and then picking a side not actual coding.

• Volume - Currently working through figuring out how many charts/files this person will be expected to complete per hour. TBD.

• Will be working in their internal database/system that houses all the claims and cases.

HOURS:

• M-F 8am 4:30 CST

Qualifications

• Prefers an entry level coding candidate with no/little coding experience. Needs to have previously worked appeals and extensive experience with EOB's. A tenured coder will get bored in this role

• CPC or CPC-A certification must be active/update to date

• Experience coding/billing emergency services, ambulance services, air ambulance and non air ambulance helpful but not required

• Would look at Billers with their CPC-A who want to get into coding with working knowledge to understand the codes and the insurance parameters

• Open to experience in either the professional services or facilities side

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
