Job summary

Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute is seeking an Authorizations Specialist to monitor incoming patient orders, gather data for pre-authorizations, and schedule appointments. The role involves evaluating portions to be paid by the customer and handling all insurance-related tasks in a timely and accurate manner.

Responsibilities include obtaining authorizations for imaging, orthotics, DME, EMG, and injections; coordinating with patients, providers, and staff; and following up on

Qualifications

• Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
• Minimum 1 year experience in a medical setting.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, etc).

Responsibilities

• Obtain authorization for diagnostic imaging, orthotics, DME, EMG studies, and Hyaluronic Acid injections directly or by submitting documentation to facility or vendor.
• Contact patients as necessary to advise on scheduling.
• Direct and timely contact with providers, medical assistants, and patient care coordinators regarding patients' authorization status.
• Review and notify provider of denials; appeal as needed.
• Perform verification of patient’s insurance benefits prior to authorization request.
• Coordinate delivery of injection medication from pharmacy for all commercial insurances and physicians in the practice.
• Ensure that verification of customers' insurance benefits is completed and updated.
• Notify customers of deductibles, authorization approvals and co-insurance due.
• Regularly call insurance companies to follow up on patient status/claims.
• Explore other payment options with customers when needed.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive customer and company information.
• Learn all Revenue Cycle responsibilities and participate in cross-training.
• Coordinate authorizations for customers with PIP/Workers' comp claims.
• Cross-train to support all back-office tasks; cover other assignments as requested.
• Phone access and readiness to receive calls related to authorizations daily.
