Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare and submit syllabi per standards; ensure approval before posting on Canvas.
• Follow approved outlines and use designated textbooks and materials.
• Grade papers and tests; provide timely feedback.
• Submit attendance rosters, competency forms, and grade sheets on time.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and exams.
• Manage classroom and online activities; maintain professional learning environment.
• Remain accessible to students for questions and assistance.
• Travel to clinical sites to visit students as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Medical Assisting Adjunct Description

The Adjunct Faculty member will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and creating meaningful learning experiences that support student achievement of course objectives. The instructor will develop lectures, labs, and assessments, maintain accurate records, and ensure compliance with all institutional and program requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver academic lectures, labs, and assignments that align with course objectives.
• Prepare and submit course syllabi per South College standards and deadlines; ensure syllabus approval before posting on Canvas.
• Follow approved course outlines and utilize designated textbooks and materials.
• Grade papers, tests, and other evaluations promptly to provide timely feedback to students.
• Complete and submit all required documentation, including attendance rosters, competency forms, and grade sheets, within established timelines.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, including grade calculation worksheets and keyed copies of final exams.
• Manage classroom and online activities effectively, maintaining a professional and supportive learning environment.
• Remain accessible to students for academic questions and assistance.
• Travel to clinical sites to visit students, as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Requirements

Candidates must evidence the following:

1. Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).
2. Have received instruction in educational theory and techniques.
3. Be credentialed in good standing in MA (see below for details*).
4. Have been employed a minimum of 3 years in a healthcare facility including a minimum of 160 hours in an ambulatory setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by MAs.
5. Have a minimum of one-year teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational/technical education

*MA Credential Detailsa. Must have earned and be able to document a Medical Assisting credential from a NCCA accredited credentialing organization, orb. Qualify for, and earn the, RMA credential by:

1. Being employed as a medical assistant for a minimum of five out of the last seven years, no more than two years of which may have been as an instructor in a post-secondary medical assistant program. Work experience must include both clinical and both clinical and administrative duties, or, alternately,
2. Having five years of full-time employment in a healthcare field within the past seven years (may be a combination of part-time settings), and 40 hours experience in an ambulatory care setting performing and/or observing psychomotor and affective domain objectives appropriate to the MA curriculum. The selected candidate must sit for an MA credentialing examination and earn the MA credential.
