Adjunct, Medical Assistant
A medical assistant adjunct instructor is responsible for planning, instructing, and evaluating students in the theoretical and practical skills required for a medical assistant career. They combine their professional medical experience with teaching skills to prepare students for certification exams and entry into the workforce. Days and times depend on specific course schedules, evenings and Saturday’s may be required.
1. Associate’s degree required.
2. Must hold a current national certification as a Medical Assistant (e.g., CMA (AAMA; NCCT), RMA (AMT), CCMA (NHA)).
3. Related professional experience or appropriate professional licensure in content area or closely related field.
4. Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills; technical proficiency with relevant medical software (EHR systems) and instructional technologies (Learning Management Systems like Blackboard) are essential.
1. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a health‑related field is preferred.
2. Higher relevant certification (e.g., RN, LPN, PA).
3. Prior teaching or training experience is preferred.
4. Two to five years of recent, full‑time career experience as a certified medical assistant in a clinical or administrative setting.
