Job summary

BHMG Baptist Health Medical Group Inc. is seeking an Urgent Care Medical Assistant to support providers in a fast-paced clinical setting. The MA will coordinate direct patient care activities and assist with clinical procedures.

This PRN role requires a high school diploma or MA program completion, 1+ year hands-on patient care, BLS within 90 days, and proficiency with EPIC EMR.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1+ year hands-on Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program with hands-on patient care.
• Orientation and competency assessment will be completed on hire.

Responsibilities

• Check in patients and document their information.
• Obtain vital signs and reconcile medications.
• Obtain patient medical history information.
• Navigate EPIC EMR system and document care.
• Communicate with pharmacies, insurers, patients and physicians; uphold Baptist Health values.

Summary Job Description

BHMG Urgent Care Medical Assistant PRN The MA will be responsible for the coordination of direct patient care activities and providing clinical support to providers within one of our clinical practices.

Duties

• Check in patients
• obtaining vital signs & medication reconciliation
• Patient medical history information
• Navigating electronic health record system (EPIC)
• Communicate with pharmacies, insurance companies, patients and physicians and will uphold Baptist’s mission and core values that drive service excellence

Minimum Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency
• 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required. Experience must include direct, hands-on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG’s, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines)
• Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required
• Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation
• Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation
• Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire
• BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications for a Certified Medical Assistant

• Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP
• Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure
• Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation
• Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation
• Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus
