Job summary

BHMG Baptist Health Medical Group Inc. is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide direct patient care and clinical support in an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history, reconciling medications, scheduling, and coordinating tests and procedures.

The role requires proficiency with the EPIC EMR and strong communication. Upon successful clinical competency, the MA may perform EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and other procedures as approved.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or MA program graduate.
• Hands-on patient care experience in a clinical setting.
• Certification preferred but not required at hire; MA orientation is provided.

Responsibilities

• Obtain vital signs and document patient history.
• Reconcile medications and document in the EMR; support scheduling.
• Coordinate tests, prior authorizations, and care procedures.
• Assist with basic clinical procedures as competency allows (EKG, phlebotomy, injections).
• Maintain clear communication and organized patient flow.

Summary Job Description

The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care and clinical support within an outpatient clinic. Responsibilities include obtaining vital signs, reconciling medications, collecting patient history, and facilitating patient flow. Additional duties involve managing the electronic health record (EPIC), scheduling appointments, processing medication requests, handling prior authorizations, and coordinating tests and procedures. Upon successful completion of clinical competency, the role may also require performing EKGs, lab tests, injections, and/or phlebotomy. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential to ensure efficient patient care and support for providers. This role requires regular on-site presence to perform the essential job functions.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or General Education Equivalency 1+ year(s) of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office, clinic or similar setting required. Experience must include direct, hands‑on patient care in a clinical setting, such as obtaining vital signs, documenting patient history and medications, and performing clinical procedures (e.g. EKG’s, phlebotomy, administering injections or vaccines). Or Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant training program, that includes hands on patient experience as part of the curriculum, required. Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation. Those who do not meet the required standards will be enrolled in the Medical Assistant Trainee Program for further development and evaluation. Basic computer skills, experience with EMR System a plus. Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 90 days of hire. BAT and DOT certifications required for Medical Assistants in Occupational Medicine within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Current Medical Assistant Certification from AAMA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, or AAMP. Or graduate of an accredited LPN or RN program with current unrestricted licensure. Upon hire, all Medical Assistants will undergo a clinical competency assessment and must successfully complete MA orientation.
