Job summary

Ivinson Memorial Hospital in Laramie, WY is seeking a Medical Assistant to support providers and care teams in outpatient settings. You will collect patient information, document health history in the EMR, assist with exams and minor procedures, and perform vital signs and phlebotomy as required. Base salary starts at $17.30/hr.

Strong customer service, communication, and EHR proficiency are essential. A high school diploma is required, with preferred MA certification and CPR/BLS credentials

Responsibilities

• Obtain and update patient information and document in EMR.
• Assist provider in exam room and minor procedures.
• Measure vital signs and prepare patients for visits.
• Manage patient check-in/out, scheduling, and calls.
• Perform phlebotomy and point-of-care testing as needed.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and follow policies.

Job description

Base salary starts at $17.30/hr.

• Under the direction & supervision of a provider, obtains, verifies, and updates patient information and health history. Charts patient information into the medical record as reported by patient.
• Assists provider in exam room as directed to include assisting with minor surgical procedures, surgical tray set-up, pre/post-surgical pt. care, and suture removal.
• Assists patients to exam rooms, measures vital signs, including weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and documents all information in patient’s EHR.
• Properly utilizes the computer system for patient registration, appointment scheduling, ordering lab tests, receiving specimens, etc.
• Perform Point of Care testing, phlebotomy, handles specimens, performs dressing changes, and completes a variety of other duties specific to certain specialties.
• Receiving patient phone calls, relaying patient questions to provider, returning patient calls at direction of provider, checking patients in and out for appointments, scheduling patient appointments, sending/receiving medical records, and entry of outside lab results into EMR.
• Other duties as assigned.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Partial college education preferred.

E X P E R I E N C E

• At least one (1) year in healthcare experience preferred.
• Experience in an outpatient clinic setting preferred.
• Healthcare experience preferred for uncertified Medical Assistants.

C R E D E N T I A L S

• Current Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• Must have current, valid BLS upon hire or must obtain within 60 days of hire, and must maintain credential throughout employment with IMH.
• Ability to learn and efficiently use an electronic medical health record (EHR).
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service skills, including but not limited to: a friendly personality, tact, patience, empathy and a helpful, professional attitude both in person and on the telephone.
• Ability to effectively communicate with staff, managers and the general public verbally and in writing.
• Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to establish priorities effectively.
• Possess exceptional problem solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision.
• Ability to learn new computer software programs.
• Ability to recognize and protect confidential information.
• Demonstrate ethical and legal accountability for the position.
