The Medical Assistant Trainee is part of a CHP sanctioned learning program to become a Certified Medical Assistant. Under the direction of the CMA Preceptor, a trainee meets all the obligations of the learning program within a specified training period, including attendance, timely online learning, as well as in-office training. Training includes developing the skills necessary to collaborate with and assist patients, medical assistants, physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and licensed practical nurses in executing CHP's mission and vision.
Grant Overview: This is a grant-funded position, and the schedule includes lab, clinical site rotations, and coursework. Work hours are 8:00am-4:30pm with a 30-minute lunch break. The Trainee will be part of a cohort of students and provided with supplies and materials for coursework. The coursework costs will be covered by the grant. The Trainee must be employed with CHP for two years post-coursework, totaling two years and six months. If the Trainee departs CHP before fulfilling this commitment, they will be responsible for all associated expenses, including salary, coursework, materials, and supplies. *The next cohort begins on July 9, 2025.*
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Welcome and escort patients, prepare patients for visits, record vital signs, assist with exams and procedures, perform EKGs, prepare lab requests, handle specimens, manage patient records, answer calls, perform clerical duties, and ensure follow-up care. Cross-train to provide backup patient services and reception duties.
Competencies: Ability to interact tactfully and professionally, manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, lead and instruct others, and communicate effectively in small groups or one-on-one. Respond appropriately to patient needs, manage difficult situations with respect, and contribute to a positive team environment.
