Job Responsibilities

Whitten Regional Center is a residential facility of the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs located in Clinton, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

To assist with the delivery of physical therapy services to the consumers at Whitten Center. The person in this position functions under the direct supervision of the Physical Therapist. The job duties require the Physical Therapy Aide to be able to perform the physical demands of the work to include lifting and maneuvering — walking, pivoting, pulling, pushing patients as well as moving heavy objects, bend, stoop, reach or stand.

  • Observes consumer and staff use of equipment in units and program areas; provides guidance to staff as appropriate for proper use of equipment.
  • Monitor compliance of programs, (i.e. ambulation, positioning, etc.) established by licensed Physical Therapist on units.
  • Provides in-service training to unit/program staff and provide required documentation of programs monitored.
  • Other duties as assigned to include general clerical record keeping, work area maintenance, etc.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

This employee should possess a high school diploma or its equivalent. Knowledge/experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is beneficial.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the basic equipment used: walkers, standing box, gait belt and vest, lift equipment, hospital beds, wheelchairs etc.; knowledge of the behaviors and needs of patients; knowledge of proper lifting techniques; ability to successfully complete in-service training, to observe and record conditions, reactions and changes in the physical conditions of patients; ability to maintain appropriate attitude and conduct necessary to the welfare of patients and the ability to maintain records and to communicate effectively and the ability to explain basic instructions and guidelines to others effectively.

State Disaster Plan: In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DDSN employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
