UPMC is seeking a full-time floating Senior Medical Assistant to support the Administration PHMG teams across Central Pennsylvania. This role, part of the float pool, will cover multiple primary care offices, balancing direct patient care with in-basket management while ensuring high-level patient service.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of a Medical Assistant program (or equivalent) or relevant certifications, and proficiency with EPIC Bridges.

Qualifications

• Must be able to assist with patient care tasks including walking, transfers, dressing, and specimen collection.
• Proficient in medical terminology and exam room responsibilities.
• Familiarity with EMR systems and clinic workflow is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Check schedules and organize patient flow.

• Take vitals, collect patient history, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
• Process medical records securely and in compliance with HIPAA and state/federal regulations.

Join our team of Life Changers! UPMC is hiring a full-time floating Medical Assistant, Senior to support the Administration PHMG teams/offices.

• Job title and salary will be based on qualifications and career ladder requirements.

This floating position will be a member of the Advanced Practice Providers Float Pool, providing coverage and support across our primary care offices. This role offers a unique opportunity to support UPMC Primary Care patients and providers while playing an integral role in a growing initiative across Central Pennsylvania.

Shift/Hours:

Monday-Friday varying within the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm. No weekends or holidays!

50% or more travel

will be required to assist other local teams/offices within 45 minutes of home office. *Manager will discuss details further during interview

Responsibilities:

• Check schedules and organizing patient flow.
• Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
• Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
• Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance.
• Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
• Prepare and clean patient, exam, and procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
• Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
• Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
• Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
• Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
• Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
• Obtain lab/x‑ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
• Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
• Schedule appointments.
• Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
• Other front office responsibilities, as required.
• Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.

The ideal candidates will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, with the ability to effectively balance direct patient care responsibilities and in-basket management. We are seeking individuals who thrive in dynamic environments, can confidently support multiple clinic locations, and consistently provide exceptional service and positive interactions with patients, providers, and care teams. Proficiency in navigating Epic Bridges is strongly preferred.

Medical Assistant Senior:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT)
  • OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA)
  • OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required.
• Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks.
• Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
• Prior Ob/Gyn experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
