Job summary

UPMC is seeking a full-time Senior Medical Assistant to support the Obstetric Gynecology Specialists in Harrisburg. The role involves patient flow management, phlebotomy, EKGs, vital signs, and exam room preparation under physician supervision.

A strong clinical foundation and attention to infection control are essential. Requirements include a Medical Assistant program or equivalent, valid certification(s) or comparable experience, and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

• Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
• Prior Ob/Gyn experience preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

• Check schedules and organize patient flow.
• Assist patients with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams.
• Take vitals, collect patient history, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
• Send/receive patient records per HIPAA rules.
• Prepare and clean rooms and equipment between visits to maintain infection control.
• Manage inventory of supplies and restock rooms.
• Comply with OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health and UP​MC policies.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
• Answer calls and provide patient education.

UPMC is hiring a full-time Medical Assistant, Senior to support the Obstetric Gynecology Specialists team/office in Harrisburg.

Salary:

• Job title and salary will be based on qualifications and career ladder requirements.

Shift/Hours:

Monday-Friday, daylight hours. No weekends or holidays!

Travel:

Up to 25% travel may be required to assist for staffing needs within our Dillsburg office/location. *Manager will discuss details further during interview

Responsibilities:

• Check schedules and organizing patient flow.
• Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
• Collect patient information/history, taking vitals, performing screenings per provider guidelines.
• Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance.
• Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
• Prepare and clean patient, exam, and procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control.
• Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
• Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health).
• Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
• Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs.
• Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure.
• Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
• Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
• Complete forms/requisitions as needed.
• Schedule appointments.
• Prepare and managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
• Other front office responsibilities, as required.
• Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.

Medical Assistant Senior:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT)
  • OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA)
  • OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required.
• Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks.
• Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
• Prior Ob/Gyn experience preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

• CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
• Act 33
• Act 34
• Act 73 FBI Clearance
